General Daily Insight for March 07, 2024

Anything seems possible on a day like this, even if that’s not actually the case. We’re all in the mood to get along as the Moon moves through friendly Aquarius, encouraging us to link up with like-minded friends and acquaintances in order to find fulfillment. Things get a bit of a bump, however, when the Moon squares off excitable Jupiter in stability-loving Taurus at 4:08 pm EST, making it only too easy to overestimate our abilities. Retain a sense of reality.

Aries

March 21 – April 19

Your own desires are likely taking precedence over anything else right now. Although people may want to include you in their plans as the Moon spins through your social 11th house, a lunar square to Jupiter in your 2nd House of Material Comfort will fix your attention firmly on your own security and satisfaction. You’re not going to want to deter from your own plans for anything, so unless everyone else decides to follow your program for the day, flying solo is probably best.

Taurus

April 20 – May 20

Go big or go home, Taurus. The Moon in your ambitious 10th house is making a potent square to boundless Jupiter in your own sign, giving you the undeniable urge to show off your skills and stand front and center where everyone can see you. There’s nothing wrong with letting yourself shine, but Jupiter can occasionally overestimate its own abilities, so don’t thrust yourself so far forward you don’t know how to get back to where you came from. A little circumspection is key.

Gemini

May 21 – June 20

Your daydreams can carry you further than you realize. The desire to explore is strong as the Moon travels through your exotic 9th house, and you’ll want to dive in with abandon when the Moon squares Jupiter in your fantastical 12th house, making anything and everything seem possible. Flights of fancy are perfectly fine … so long as you keep one foot planted on terra firma. This is also a very creative energy, so don’t be shy about letting the muse out to play.

Cancer

June 21 – July 22

You are encountering an awkward juxtaposition between excitement and intensity. This strong vibration is due to a combative square between the emotive Moon in your private 8th house and excitable Jupiter in your outgoing 11th house, which could leave you unsure of how to act. People will likely come calling your name when you’d rather stay behind closed doors, so you may have to politely turn them down. Otherwise, they could think you’ve lost interest altogether. A little diplomacy will save the day.

Leo

July 23 – August 22

Undeniable opportunities may pull you away from other plans today. A powerful square between the Moon in your relationship sector and bountiful Jupiter in your career sector could force you to put the important people in your life on ice while you deal with certain professional matters. The work projects could be exciting and help boost you up the ladder of success, but that will likely occur at the expense of quality bonding time with others. Assure your loved ones it won’t last forever!

Virgo

August 23 – September 22

Your usual routine is getting thrown for a loop, albeit a pleasant one. You’re moving along at a steady pace as the Moon tours your 6th House of Efficiency, but a lunar square to impulsive Jupiter in your 9th House of Adventure is going to shake things up and give you an extra-large dose of wanderlust. If the temptation to explore is too strong to ignore, then by all means, go pursue your pleasures, but check off any important tasks before you flit off.

Libra

September 23 – October 22

An otherwise fun day may arrive with a touch of intensity. You’re enjoying life as the Moon dances along through your 5th House of Fun, but things take a turn for the more heated when the Moon squares off Jupiter in your 8th House of Secrets. You could feel an undeniable undercurrent moving through everything, making you think you have to read between the lines, but the harder you try to pin down the truth, the easier it slips away. Avoid overthinking and dramatizing.

Scorpio

October 23 – November 21

Someone else has a plan for you today, even if you don’t realize it. You’d rather chill on the couch while the Moon hovers in your 4th House of Home, but someone’s going to come knocking — or demand you come to them — when the Moon squares Jupiter in your 7th House. Jupiter wants you to enjoy yourself, so this could be a wonderful surprise, but you will have to leave the comfort of your surroundings if you want to experience this bounty.

Sagittarius

November 22 – December 21

It’s one distraction after another. You’ve got a million things to see to as the Moon bounds along through your busy 3rd house, but you’ll need to ignore the most superfluous matters when the Moon squares Jupiter in your efficient 6th house, making it wise to get down to basics. Cut out as much chatter and noise as you possibly can. It won’t be easy, but if you can manage to tune out all that static, you could achieve something quite impressive.

Capricorn

December 22 – January 19

There are far more exciting things to see to than work right now. Although the Moon is in your income sector, turning your attention towards productivity, a square to bountiful Jupiter in your fun-loving 5th house is going to make it difficult to focus on your usual tasks. Despite your best efforts, it might simply be too difficult to ignore the call of excitement, but you can always return to your work tomorrow without worry. Go and enjoy life — you deserve it.

Aquarius

January 20 – February 18

There’s a buoyant energy unfurling under your own roof, Aquarius. The Moon in your sign is forming a powerful angle to Jupiter in your 4th House of Home, making this the perfect day to open your doors and let the world in. If you’re in the mood to host a group, invite the gang over for a night of games or karaoke, cheese board included! If you’re feeling more low-key, however, you could also make some fabulous aesthetic improvements to your abode.

Pisces

February 19 – March 20

You don’t need a roadmap to wind up somewhere lovely. You’re prone to drifting about with the Moon in your dreamy 12th house, but opportunities are popping up like mushrooms as the Moon squares Jupiter in your 3rd House of Local Community. You can stumble upon exciting chances when you let yourself float around like a balloon, so be liberal when it comes to socializing. You never know where your next big opportunity will come from — all you have to do is stay open.

CBS developing ‘The Gates,’ first Black daytime soap opera in 35 years https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/03/06/the-gates-cbs-black-soap-opera/ Thu, 07 Mar 2024 01:39:21 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7565188 The scandalous antics of Black friends and families will no longer be relegated to primetime staples such as “Tyler Perry’s Sistas” and wildly popular reality shows such as “Married to Medicine.”

The daytime soap opera world will welcome its first new series starring a predominantly Black cast in 35 years.

CBS, in partnership with civil rights organization NAACP, announced Wednesday its development of “The Gates,” a soap centered on a wealthy Black family living in a posh, gated community.

The daytime drama will be written by Emmy winner Michele Val Jean, whose credits include more than 2,000 episodes of iconic soaps including “The Bold & The Beautiful” and “General Hospital.” The 72-year-old daytime veteran, who served as a script writer for the Black-led “Generations” in the early 1990s, will also serve as showrunner.

“The Gates will be everything we love about daytime drama, from a new and fresh perspective,” CBS Studios/NAACP president Sheila Ducksworth said in a statement. “This series will salute an audience that has been traditionally underserved, with the potential to be a groundbreaking moment for broadcast television.”

“With multi-dimensional characters, juicy storylines and Black culture front and center, ‘The Gates’ will have impactful representation, one of the key touchstones of the venture,” the former “Soul Food” producer added.

Once the dominating content of daytime, there are currently only three soap operas still airing on network TV: “The Young & the Restless” and “The Bold & the Beautiful,” both on CBS, and ABC’s “General Hospital.”

In 2022, “Days of Our Lives” moved exclusively to the Peacock streaming platform after 57 years on NBC.

NYC hidden dining gems: Rockaway Tiki Bar https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/03/06/nyc-hidden-dining-gems-rockaway-tiki-bar/ Wed, 06 Mar 2024 18:00:10 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7564118 Visiting the Rockaways in the off-season has its perks. You can hang with the locals, support businesses that stay open year-round, and, with a proper winter jacket, still enjoy the sounds of the waves crashing in with the sand beneath your feet. I recently found myself at Rockaway Tiki Bar, one of the rare neighborhood businesses that stay open all year, for a taste of summer.

Owner Amy Tichenor felt Queens’ best beach neighborhood was missing a proper tiki bar and filled that gap in April 2021. The magic is in the details at Rockaway Tiki Bar. Beyond just serving frozen cocktails, the bar is stocked with quality liquor, and the thoughtful food menu appeals to diners with all types of diets. The funky decor plastered all over the walls is carefully curated, with license plates from Hawaii and Mexico and photos from Amy’s travels to tiki bars around the world.

I showed up on a Saturday afternoon intending to try a frozen concoction or two, but I also brought a healthy appetite. Even in January, I found the bar packed, likely due to their weekend brunch program, which debuted this year on New Year’s Day. I was not in a brunch mood, though, so I ordered from the standard menu.

There’s a nice mix of plant-based and carnivorous options and even an entirely separate menu for gluten-free diners. Rockaway Tiki Bar considers dietary needs to such an extent that  all of their soy is gluten-free and all of their mayo is vegan.

The first thing that caught my eye were the different options for dumplings: chicken teriyaki, pork and cabbage, pan-seared shrimp or edamame. Having never had an edamame dumpling before, I went for the latter. They have two bao bun varieties, both vegan: miso mushroom or peanut tamari tofu. I ordered the mushroom.

The poke bowls are the best sellers, so I also had to go with one of those, topped with ahi tuna, and I threw in a kimchi hotdog for good measure.

The edamame dumplings were simple, steamed dumplings, filled to the brim with buttery, nutty, al dente edamame.

They say you eat with your eyes first, and the poke bowl definitely supports that theory. Like a rainbow on a plate, the bowl was piled high with morsels of deep pink tuna, pops of green edamame, slivers of purple cabbage and orange carrots, all decorated with black sesame seeds and salmon-colored spicy mayo. The taste brought just as much flair, and I can foresee my summer days in the Rockaways being fueled by a refreshing poke bowl taken to-go to enjoy on the beach.

The miso mushroom bao buns won the gold for me. The fluffy buns are stuffed with umami-packed meaty mushrooms, and the miso gives it just enough creaminess, which contrasted well with the tang and crunch of the marinated cabbage. I could’ve only had the mushroom bao buns at Rockaway TIki Bar and it would be reason enough to come back.

That said, I sure am glad I also ordered the kimchi dog. Even in the frigid New York winter, something about being near the beach makes me a sucker for a hotdog. The kimchi dog, priced at only $9, is topped generously with pickled, spicy kimchi, cabbage slaw, shredded cheddar, and spicy mayo on a Martin’s potato roll. Just as I could foresee fueling myself with the poke bowl on my more civilized Rockaway days, I can just as easily imagine sitting at Rockaway Tiki Bar with a kimchi dog, then knocking back a few frozen cocktails to work up my appetite for another.

Speaking of the cocktails, you won’t find premixed, products full of high fructose corn syrup here. All the juices and syrups are fresh, and the liquor in stock features several women-owned tequila brands, as well as local vodkas and gins. But don’t feel pressured to stick with sugary, citrus-packed drinks just because of the environment you’re in.

“The bartenders know what they’re doing,” Amy tells me. “If you want a martini, you can get a martini.”

But if you do find yourself there on a particularly hot day — or during their weekday happy hours from noon to 6 — you simply must try their Painchiller, made with three Caribbean rums, pineapple juice, coconut cream and orange juice, topped with fresh grated nutmeg.

General Daily Insight for March 06, 2024

An active effort to heal can work wonders. The day begins with a pleasant shock as the Moon trines rebel Uranus, but the skies will reverberate with much stronger energy when action planet Mars makes a helpful sextile to soulful Chiron at 6:04 pm EST, giving us the impetus to work through old wounds and reach a happier destination. The Moon will then go on to enter free-thinking Aquarius where it will conjoin alchemical Pluto, ending the day on potent note.

Aries

March 21 – April 19

Taking on the world alone is rarely a good idea. Today you have all the support you need to face any struggles as your sign’s ruler, Mars, reaches out from your 11th House of Friendships to make a helpful sextile to healing Chiron in your 1st House of Action. Chiron is slowly but surely forcing you to process old wounds in order to move past them. Allow this helpful energy from Mars to remind you that you are not alone in your search for improvement.

Taurus

April 20 – May 20

Your own abilities are your greatest tools against insecurity. You’re primed to perform at your best as action planet Mars tours your 10th House of Career, but that can have unexpected benefits as the red planet sextiles Chiron in your 12th House of the Subconscious. Chiron can stir up old issues or anxieties, but Mars is here to remind you that you are incredibly capable — and that you’re likely your own harshest judge. Be kind with yourself, and remember how far you’ve come.

Gemini

May 21 – June 20

Surrounding yourself with the right people is important no matter where you are. The desire to broaden your horizons is quite powerful right now as Mars flies through your 9th House of Adventure, but you’re not in the mood to go alone when Mars sextiles Chiron in your 11th House of Social Networks. Your broad circle of acquaintances could provide you plenty of opportunities to go explore the world, but you’ll find more joy if you bring others along for the ride.

Cancer

June 21 – July 22

You can only push yourself so far before you burn out. That isn’t to say you’re at your breaking point today, but you do deserve to take a less forceful approach as Mars in your transformative 8th house sextiles healer Chiron in your ambitious 10th house. This is a reminder that if your purpose isn’t aligned with your trajectory, you’ll feel unsatisfied. Ensure these two sides of your life are at peace with one another — otherwise, you’ll lack fulfillment and drive.

Leo

July 23 – August 22

It only takes one person to help you see the world clearly. Important folks are taking center stage as Mars moves through your 7th House of Relationships, but that energy takes a turn for the boundless as Mars sextiles Chiron in your 9th House of Expansion. If you allow others to impact your views and show you new ways of thinking and being that you never even considered before, the results can change your life for the better. All you need is an open mind.

Virgo

August 23 – September 22

Sometimes the only way forward is by taking things one step at a time. That will be your best approach to whatever is in front of you currently as Mars in your efficient 6th house makes a supportive angle to Chiron in your extreme 8th house. This alignment can ask a lot of you, but instead of being daunted by all the work on your plate, break it down into smaller tasks. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by how much you are able to accomplish.

Libra

September 23 – October 22

It’s always nice to know someone cares about you. You may receive such a boost as Mars in your 5th House of Pleasure aligns with Chiron in your 7th House of Partnerships, bringing someone your way who will make life feel that much more wonderful. This person could fit any sort of label, but what matters most is that they know how to put a smile on your face — and will help you see the positivity in life once more. Welcome them in!

Scorpio

October 23 – November 21

Getting things sorted can make you feel worlds better. A helpful alignment between can-do Mars in your 4th House of Feelings and Chiron in your 6th House of Daily Work will highlight the parallel between your inner emotions and your immediate surroundings. If one side of this pairing is out of sorts, the other is likely to get cluttered as well, so try to get at least one of these back to a state of equilibrium. Do that, and everything else will fall into place.

Sagittarius

November 22 – December 21

You can’t sit around waiting for wonderful things to happen — you have to go pursue them yourself. Fortunately, you won’t need to go far! Mars in your local community sector sextiles Chiron in your pleasure sector today, turning up a surprising number of opportunities to enjoy yourself close to home. Even if you’re a little bored of your neighborhood, try to approach it with fresh eyes and a sense of wonder. You’re sure to find hidden gems right around the corner.

Capricorn

December 22 – January 19

Your space requires a bit of attention, perhaps even a few updates. A productive sextile between Mars in your luxurious 2nd house and Chiron in your foundational 4th house is encouraging you to direct some energy and focus to improving your surroundings so that you feel more at home in your space (as you should!). Your abode ought to be a worthy reflection of yourself, so make sure that any changes suit you and your needs first and foremost, regardless of trends.

Aquarius

January 20 – February 18

This is a day for both giving and receiving support. Mars in your own sign is propelling you forward, and a sextile to Chiron in your communications sector will help bring out your most empathetic, proactive self. People you encounter may need a kind word or a sympathetic ear to unload their burdens, but this is a two-way street. You should have just as much opportunity to speak your own truth in the process. By helping another, you can help yourself.

Pisces

February 19 – March 20

You don’t always realize you’ve outgrown something until you go looking for the same old satisfaction, only to find it lacking. You might have such a moment as Mars in your 12th House of Endings sextiles Chiron in your 2nd House of Material Security, shining a light on something which no longer pleases. If you find yourself going through the day with a sense of dissatisfaction, it’s likely because you’ve been caught in circles, repeating old patterns. Start something new — happiness will follow.

‘Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness accused of being ‘abusive monster’ in new exposé https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/03/05/jonathan-van-ness-allegations-rolling-stone-expose/ Wed, 06 Mar 2024 01:24:48 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7562925 Jonathan Van Ness, the beloved grooming expert on Netflix hit “Queer Eye,” is in reality a “monster” with severe “rage issues,” according to an exposé published Tuesday by Rolling Stone.

“[There’s] a real emotion of fear around them when they get angry,” a source said of Van Ness, who uses they/them pronouns. “It’s almost like a cartoon where it oozes out of them. It’s intense and scary.”

The publication spoke with over 10 anonymous sources from the “Queer Eye” production team and others who have worked with Van Ness, with many claiming the star’s nasty behavior was creating so much toxicity behind the scenes that the other castmates were becoming hesitant to film with Van Ness.

Four people who held prominent roles on the production referred to Van Ness, 36, as a “monster,” a “nightmare” and “demeaning.”

Seven others told Rolling Stone the star would lash out at crew members, making filming “difficult in any capacity.”

“At least once a day, they would need to yell at somebody,” a source said. “It might be something small, but there’s always going to be somebody to point out and blame and make the villain of the day.”

Their “unprofessional” behavior and need to be the center of the show also sowed significant animosity amongst the other stars.

“[Van Ness] didn’t want to ever share the spotlight with anyone,” another source added. “There were times when we couldn’t even shoot scenes with certain members of the Fab Five together because it got so bad.”

Those certain members reportedly included interior design expert Bobby Berk, who announced in November his decision to leave the production after season 8, which recently premiered on Netflix.

Berk elaborated on his departure in a recent profile for Vanity Fair, discussing contract negotiations and a rumored rift with fashion expert Tan France, but didn’t make mention of any issues with Van Ness.

Commonly identified by their initials JVN, the grooming expert and internet personality has hosted the show since 2018 and is also a podcaster, bestselling author, comedian and owner of a line of non-gendered haircare products.

“Jonathan’s a person who contains multitudes and who has the capacity to be very warm, very charismatic, and has the capacity to make you feel really special that they are paying attention to you,” another source told Rolling Stone — though that persona appears to be constructed.

“There’s a real contrast between that and the way that they treat the people who are closest to them across the board,” said another insider who worked with Van Ness. “It’s the opposite of what this person is touted and paid to be.”

Reps for Van Ness have not yet replied to a request for comment on the accusations.

Taylor Swift and Emily Dickinson aren’t just acclaimed writers. They’re distant relatives https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/03/05/taylor-swift-and-emily-dickinson-arent-just-acclaimed-writers-theyre-distant-relatives/ Tue, 05 Mar 2024 19:42:43 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7562500&preview=true&preview_id=7562500 Alexandra Del Rosario | Los Angeles Times (TNS)

It seems Taylor Swift’s knack for writing runs blood deep — all the way back to poet Emily Dickinson.

The “Karma” singer and the “‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers” author are distant relatives, specifically “6th cousins, three times removed.” Genealogical site Ancestry.com revealed on Monday that the two writers descend from “a 17th century English immigrant” who settled in Windsor, Connecticut.

That distant ancestor was Dickinson’s sixth great-grandfather and Swift’s ninth, Ancestry.com added. Swift’s side of the family stayed in Connecticut for “six generations until her part of the family settled in northwestern Pennsylvania,” the site told Today.

“Guess we can truly say that all’s fair in love and poetry,” the site captioned an Instagram post unveiling its discovery.

The new Swift-Dickinson link brings some Swifties’ long-gestating theories full circle. Years ago, eagle-eyed fans of the “Bad Blood” singer noticed that she released her single “Evermore,” the evening of Dec. 10, 2020 — what would have been Dickinson’s 190th birthday. For those wondering, Swift — born Dec. 13, 1989 — and Dickinson share the same astrological sign: Sagittarius. Additionally, Swift’s song and album of the same name sounded similar to Dickinson’s “Sue — forevermore!”

Dickinson lived in Amherst, Massachusetts, and died in 1886 at age 55. She was known for short, lyrical poems that included “Success is counted sweetest,” “Wild nights — Wild nights!” and “Tell all the truth but tell it slant.”

Upon receiving the songwriter-artist of the decade award from Nashville Songwriters Assn. International in 2022, Swift, 34, said the poetic feel of her music was no coincidence.

“I categorize certain songs of mine in the Quill style if the words and phrasing are antiquated, if I was inspired to write it after reading Charlotte Brontë or after watching a movie where everyone is wearing poet shirts and corsets,” she said during her speech, Pitchfork reported. “If my lyrics sound like a letter written by Emily Dickinson’s great-grandmother while sewing a lace curtain, that’s me writing in the Quill genre.”

Swift will seemingly take her love for poetry up a notch with her forthcoming album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” which she announced at the 66th Grammy Awards in February.

“I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years,” she said, “which is that my brand-new album comes out April 19.”

Swift, the self-proclaimed chairman of the Tortured Poets Department, made history at the Grammy Awards, setting a record for the most wins by an artist in the category for album of the year.

Since her big announcement, Swift has slowly doled out information on social media about her newest release. Since announcing “The Tortured Poets Department,” Swift has revealed her tracklist, featured artists and the album art.

General Daily Insight for March 05, 2024

Finding opportunities won’t require much effort today. The Moon in capable Capricorn begins with a supportive sextile to masterful Saturn, helping us identify what needs to be done, but then a special lunar trine to fortuitous Jupiter at 1:30 pm EST will show us the best and most exciting way forward. The Moon will go on to sextile the Sun before forming a square to Chiron, so we will need to look inward to ensure our outer actions are aligned with our deepest desires.

Aries

March 21 – April 19

If you put in a little effort, the reward can be quite grand. You get what you give ten times back as the Moon in your career sector forms a special trine to lucky Jupiter in your money sector, helping you get properly recompensed for your work (plus a little extra). This is great if you’re already engaged with a certain project or happy with your current gig, and if you’re looking for something new, this is the perfect time to find it.

Taurus

April 20 – May 20

There’s no such thing as too big or too far on a day like this. You are happy to take in the whole wide world as the Moon tours your 9th House of Expansion and trines bountiful Jupiter in your 1st House of Self-Expression. All this cosmic energy fills you up with a special dose of positivity. The world is like a great buffet just waiting for you to come and sample its offerings, so dive in and explore your options.

Gemini

May 21 – June 20

Having faith in others is often a good idea, but you know better than anyone that it doesn’t always prove useful. Fortunately, other people have your best interests at heart today. A trine between the Moon in your 8th House of Bonding and Jupiter in your 12th House of Dreams brings aid from unexpected places. You may wonder what you’ve done to earn such kindness, but it’s well-deserved. Believe that what you receive now is the benefit of previous good work.

Cancer

June 21 – July 22

People have quite a bit to offer you. There is a lovely trine overhead between the Moon in your partnership sector and Jupiter in your friendship sector, bringing all sorts out of the woodwork, begging you to come out and play. Whether you find yourself surrounded by a big group or just one or two important individuals, the only way you can waste this energy is by avoiding company altogether, so by all means, go circulate! People are dying to see you.

Leo

July 23 – August 22

This could be a fantastically productive day. The Moon in your 6th House of Daily Work is making a wonderful trine to Jupiter in your 10th House of Career, helping you check off lots of little tasks in order to pull off something big. Don’t worry too much about trying to make a splash — it’s the little things and small matters of efficiency that will pay off in the long-term. Look to a co-worker or client to boost you up.

Virgo

August 23 – September 22

You are willing to travel far and wide in your search for pleasure, now more so than ever! A special alignment between the Moon in your passionate 5th house and Jupiter in your adventurous 9th house is going to make the day feel like a window has blown open and a fresh breeze is coming your way, beckoning you to go explore. You never know what exciting things await! With this cosmic energy, you simply have to go looking for them.

Libra

September 23 – October 22

It’s easy to get wrapped up in your feelings today. The Moon is in your emotional 4th house, so you’re prone to being a bit more sensitive than usual, but it’s also forming a trine to Jupiter in your supportive 8th house, allowing you to feel without getting overwhelmed. This energy is very helpful for internal processing … but less beneficial for external interactions, so don’t be surprised if you want alone time while you work things out. You’re simply cocooning before becoming a butterfly.

Scorpio

October 23 – November 21

There’s rarely been a better day for dynamic duos. A special trine between the Moon in your chatty 3rd house and Jupiter in your relationship-focused 7th house is stirring up the social vibrations, offering you lots of chances to come together with people who totally get you and what you are all about. Even if you normally prefer to fly solo, this is not the time for that, so put on a smile to go meet the world — and a few new faces, to boot!

Sagittarius

November 22 – December 21

It’s up to you to make productive use of the day, but it shouldn’t prove too difficult. A helpful trine between the Moon in your 2nd House of Income and Jupiter in your 6th House of Efficiency will make the tasks in front of you feel as easy as one-two-three. Jupiter will be acting especially in your favor, sending financially promising projects your way and helping you capitalize on them. There’s money on the table — don’t leave it for someone else to grab.

Capricorn

December 22 – January 19

Everywhere you turn, there’s something to make you smile. This day is full of positivity and possibility as the Moon in your home sign trines Jupiter in your 5th House of Pleasure, putting a cosmic emphasis on you and your desires. Even if you had plans to roll up your sleeves and put your nose to the grindstone, something much more exciting could draw your attention away from mundane matters. Don’t feel guilty about enjoying yourself — chances like this are meant to be taken.

Aquarius

January 20 – February 18

You can move at your own pace without fear others will rush you along. You prefer to take life easy today as the Moon drifts through your sleepy 12th house, and a supportive trine to Jupiter in your cozy 4th house will only amplify the cocooning vibes. If you want to retreat from the world for a bit, then go right ahead! You’ve got cosmic clearance to curl up on the couch and do as you please. You’ll return to reality soon enough.

Pisces

February 19 – March 20

You could become privy to some very interesting information today. There is a particularly potent trine between the Moon in your 11th House of Social Networks and Jupiter in your 3rd House of Communications, and together, these heavenly bodies will send you some sound bites you can’t possibly ignore. Whether you’re linking up with friends for a group adventure or happen to catch wind of something through the grapevine, keep your eyes and ears open for the unexpected when it shows up.

Recipe: Korean hand-torn noodle soup with chicken lifts the spirit https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/03/04/recipe-korean-hand-torn-noodle-soup-with-chicken-lifts-the-spirit/ Mon, 04 Mar 2024 20:35:00 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7560864&preview=true&preview_id=7560864 Gretchen McKay | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (TNS)

If it’s homemade, you really can’t lose with chicken noodle soup, can you?

One of the world’s most beloved comfort foods, a bowl of the nourishing liquid instantly makes you feel better when you’re sick or lonely, and is just so warm and soothing when it’s still a little chilly outside.

It can be ladled into a cup to enjoy on the living room couch, or be paired with bread and a salad for a quick and casual supper. Sliced carrots add a bit of color and crunch and who would say no to a finishing sprinkle of flaky salt.

This deliciously simple recipe from Milk Street for sujebi, a traditional Korean noodle soup, achieves the perfect balance of umami and spice. It combines shredded chicken breast, carrots and sliced zucchini in a rich and satisfying broth flavored with onion, garlic and three staples you’ll find in every Korean kitchen: soy sauce, chili paste (gochujang) and chili flakes (gochugaru).

Fresh, hand-torn noodles that take just minutes to make with flour and water add a lovely chewy texture to the soup, which has a slight (but absolutely terrific) kick. My soup probably had a little bit more chicken than called for since the bone-in chicken breasts were really big, but there still was enough broth to keep the dish from turning in to a stew.

The noodles only need a few minutes to cook in the simmering broth; you’ll know they’re done when they float to the top.

Korean Hand-Torn Noodle Soup with Chicken

PG tested

1 cup all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting

Kosher salt and black pepper

1 3/4 — 2 pounds bone in, skin-on chicken breasts

1 medium yellow onion, chopped

4 scallions, thinly sliced, whites and greens reserved separately

4 medium cloves garlic, minced

3 tablespoons soy sauce, divided

4- 5 teaspoons gochujang (Korean fermented chili paste)

1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil

1 tablespoon white sesame seeds, toasted

1/4 teaspoon gochugaru (Korean chili flakes), optional

2 medium carrots, peeled and cut into 1/4 -inch rounds

1 medium zucchini, quartered lengthwise and cut crosswise 1/4 -inch thick

Make dough: In large bowl, stir together flour and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Make a well in the center of the flour and add 1/3 cup water.

Using a silicone spatula or wooden spoon, begin incorporating the flour by starting at the center and gradually drawing in more, until a shaggy dough forms. Don’t add more water even if it feels dry at first; it will hydrate during kneading and after a few minutes become supple and tender.

Using the heel of your palm, knead the dough in the bowl, swiping along the sides to incorporate dry bits. Lightly flour the counter and turn the dough onto it.

Lightly flour your hands and knead until dough is smooth, about 4 minutes. Form dough into a bowl, wrap in plastic wrap and let rest at room temperature while you make the soup.

Make soup: In large pot, combine 2 1/2 quarts water, chicken, onion, scallion white, garlic, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 1 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Bring to a simmer over medium-high, cover partially and simmer until a skewer inserted in the thickest part of the chicken meets no resistance, about 25 minutes.

Meanwhile, in a small bowl, stir together scallion greens, remaining 2 tablespoons soy sauce, gochujang, sesame oil, sesame seeds and gochugaru, if using. Set aside.

When chicken is done, transfer to large plate. Add carrots to broth and bring to a simmer over medium-high. Cook, uncovered and stirring occasionally until carrots are tender, about 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, use 2 forks to shred the chicken into bite-sized pieces; discard the skin and bones.

Unwrap the dough. Working beside the pot, hold dough in one hand. With your other hand, pull and stretch small sections of the dough, flattening it between your thumb and forefinger, then tear off a piece roughly 1 1/2 inches long. Drop the piece into the broth.

Continue until you have used all the dough. Stir in the zucchini and shredded chicken. Return to a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, until noodles are tender and zucchini is tender-crisp, about 3 minutes.

Off heat, stir in the gochujang-sesame mixture, then taste and season with salt and pepper.

Serves 4-6.

General Daily Insight for March 04, 2024

A balance of ingenuity and reality is the best way for us to handle the day. The Moon in outgoing Sagittarius starts out with a square to Neptune in flowing Pisces, making it easy to see the world through rose-colored glasses. Mercury will then sextile rebel Uranus, encouraging us to think outside the box and take an unusual approach to life. Plus, once the Moon glides into grounded Capricorn at 4:15 pm EST, we can still find a constructive path forward.

Aries

March 21 – April 19

The finish line is calling your name. The Moon is bounding into your ambitious 10th house, giving you the drive to chase what you want and put in the effort to ensure it becomes yours. If you’ve gotten a little lost along the way, then this energy should be a great reminder of where you are headed. With a touch of hard work, you can move mountains! There’s no need to fuss over molehills or any other minor drains on your energy.

Taurus

April 20 – May 20

The horizon is so much wider than anyone could realize. Your immediate surroundings may be quite comfortable, but take a minute to consider exploring beyond your usual boundaries as the Moon wings its way into your adventurous 9th house. There are countless invigorating and enlightening options out in the world! The only thing you need to do is take the initiative to go and search for them, because you are sure to find excitement and opportunity around every corner and under every stone.

Gemini

May 21 – June 20

This isn’t a day for slacking off. You are being called to put on a brave face and meet the world as it is when the Moon enters your intense 8th house, which isn’t exactly a light-hearted sector. That doesn’t at all mean it’s negative! Just keep in mind that you may have to draw a line in the sand and tell people where your boundaries lie, especially if they start pushing buttons you’d rather they didn’t. Stand firm in your own convictions, Gemini.

Cancer

June 21 – July 22

There’s no need to take on the world by yourself. You can team up with powerful partners as the Moon moves into your 7th House of Relationships, reminding you that life can be much easier and more pleasant with a teammate by your side. Regardless of the specific nature of this connection, you’ll be able to make leaps and bounds together, traveling a greater distance than you could manage on your own. Life isn’t something to face alone! You can lean on your loved ones.

Leo

July 23 – August 22

A little organization is exactly what the doctor ordered. You’re in the perfect frame of mind to tidy up as the Moon enters your 6th House of Efficiency, highlighting this moment for you to dig in and do some spring cleaning. Look around your life and identify any clutter, be it literal or otherwise, and decide what must be done in order to clean it up. Don’t just stop there! Follow your efforts to the finish line, and the results will be worth it.

Virgo

August 23 – September 22

Hiding your light from the world isn’t doing you any favors. It’s your turn to stand where everyone can see you as the Moon leaps into your 5th House of Creativity, giving you free rein to express yourself and let everyone see how much talent you’ve got. Whether you want to literally put on a show, or just perform your usual routine with extra flair, make an effort to do something to add excitement to your day. You deserve to have fun!

Libra

September 23 – October 22

Your feelings loom large today. There’s a good reason for this, however, as the Moon is slipping into your sensitive 4th house. This could make you just that much more vulnerable to your surroundings and the people populating them. Your buttons are easier to push, so avoid people who won’t respect your space or feelings — thankfully, opening up to the right person who understands you can prove to be incredibly cathartic. There is nothing weak about being honest with yourself and others.

Scorpio

October 23 – November 21

Everyone has something to say, especially you. Ideas and conversations are arriving at full speed as the Moon empowers your chatty 3rd house. You’ve got the cosmic microphone to call out to others and see what’s happening all around you. Even the smallest or most random interaction can lead to something interesting that sparks fresh curiosity within you! Even if you’re the sort of Scorpio who doesn’t normally do chit-chat, give it a chance this time around and see what happens.

Sagittarius

November 22 – December 21

Your finances could use a check-in. Matters of money and security are coming into focus as the Moon touches down in your 2nd House of Resources. If you’ve been on the lookout for a way to increase your net worth, take this as a sign to heighten your search for options! You could come across the perfect thing at any moment. If you’re satisfied with your current situation, consider speaking with a financial advisor about further opportunities to invest your hard-earned resources.

Capricorn

December 22 – January 19

The starting line is beckoning you to step forward. The Moon is arriving in your sign for its monthly visit, signaling a time to get back to basics and orient your attention toward your immediate needs. If your life has fallen out of sync, use this day to gain clarity around any foggy matters. You should be able to cut through the excess with ease. Once you know what you’re about, start heading in that direction and don’t stop until you get there.

Aquarius

January 20 – February 18

Sometimes a backseat approach is the best way to get where you are going. This is one of those times, as the Moon settles down in your sleepy 12th house for the next two days, waving a white flag and permitting you to pull over, slowing down and leaving the cosmic freeway. This isn’t a time for action, but if you want to be proactive then focus on removing unnecessary baggage and stresses which do not serve you, lightening your load for future endeavors.

Pisces

February 19 – March 20

Life is more fun when you get to enjoy it with other people. Let the Moon urge you to come together as it parades into your 11th House of Friendships. Take up any offers to coordinate with pals and spend time just doing whatever! Whether you are joining up for a common cause, like a charitable effort or group project, or simply want to hit up the hottest club in town, you’ll feel much more yourself when surrounded by like-minded souls.
